Team development training

The following summaries show the types of courses Andi Roberts designs and delivers in the team development area.

All team development courses are custom designed to your requirements and Andi Roberts can support the training needs analysis and programme evaluation process as required.

Each course is supported by:

  • Pre course work such as reading or journalling.
  • Comprehensive handouts.
  • Follow up emails on the subjects covered
  • A private online area for participants to share ideas developed on the course together.

Courses can also be supported by one on one coaching, team coaching and additional webinar technology suppported sessions either with follow up content or course reviewing and action planning.

New Team Development : 3 days

 

This course is aimed at bringing together new team members and propelling them through what Bruce Tuckman, the American psychologist labelled, "forming, storming and norming" which in essence getting the team to build personal relationships, work out how to get the best from each other, understand the appropriate ways for dealing with interpersonal conflict and setting up processes for working effectively towards their business goals. The team leaves this course with a unified sense of purpose and camaraderie as well as broad range of tools and techniques to support their work as a high performing team.

In this course the participants will

  • Clarify the purpose and goals of the team.
  • Develop meaningful and manageable performance targets.
  • Explore and clarify personal, organisational and team values.
  • Develop a team charter of standards from which the team work by.
  • Learn tools for generating ideas and making effective decisions.
  • Understand how to deal with interpersonal conflict.
  • Explore the personal and professional backgrounds of the team as well as strengths and development areas

 

Team Activation : 2 days

Team activation is a two day session for teams that are not quite as high performing as expected. The time together unearths the causes and supports the team on getting back on track. All Team Activation courses are unique designs. Each two day session is a combination of training, team coaching and facilitation. Previous to the session several interview, face to face or via telephone are held to understand the issues that are blocking the team performance .Along with this interview process, the first session of the two days gets the who team to rate themselves on the Lominger's T7 team effectiveness model which is a series of 20 competencies required in high performing teams. Based on the results of the interviews and the morning competency assessment the rest of the course is designed to flow around the results and focus on the areas where the team need to truly reinforce their competency to return to high performance. This is as "on demand" as training gets as Andi Roberts bring over 30 highly transportable experiential activities with him to support the training, facilitation and team coaching processes. Ongoing team meeting facilitation is also available to support the team's performance.

Virtual Team kick off - 3 days

 

This course is similar to the new team development course but takes a significant amount of time to focus on building trust, clarifying expectations around working virtually and practising through a range of experiential activities communicating in a virtual environment so that when the team returns back to work they are ready to work virtually together. This programme is a combination of facilitation and training and large component of experiential learning to reinforce best practises. This programme is also supported by a 2 hour interactice webinar based session which takes place approximately 6 weeks after the programme to review progress and provide a forum for continuous improvement in the virtual work process.

In this course participants will

  • Create strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Build a strong bond of trust amongst the team members.
  • Develop strong practice in distance and virtual communication skills.
  • Create a team charter that creates the guidelines on how the team works together effectively.
  • Create a series of clear action steps to support the virtual team on return to work.
  • Be involved in a 2 hour team review 6 weeks after the course to reinforce key concepts and keep focused.

 

Project Team Kick Off - 2 days

This two day session is a mixture of training and facilitation as Andi Roberts works hand in hand with the project lead to present the project plan to the project team along with accompanying support sessions to reinforce the team dynamics and performance. Topics that Andi Roberts typically interweaves with the project plan include:

  • Team members and personality.
  • Effective project communication.
  • Managing and getting beyond conflict.
  • Effective project meetings.
  • How to move to high performance teamwork.

 

The five dysfunctions of a team : 2 days

Lencioni's ground breaking book has been a classic for organisations and team leaders looking to jump start team performance in any type of team. This course, using licensed resources, is aimed at any team looking to raise their game. Pre course kick materials are sent out including the official anonymous "five dysfunctions" survey which is completed and returned to the facilitator. During the course each of the five areas are worked on to build team commitment and performance:

removing the Absence of Trust,
reducing the Fear of Conflict,
moving away from the Lack of Commitment,
ensuring there is no Avoidance of Accountability,
clarifying the Inattention to Results and refocusing on the results

Additional time is spent team coaching, training and facilitating the major development areas as outlined by the survey scores. The team leaves the two days with a solid action plan and the Lencioni course handbook.
