Recovering an energy drop in a group

Recently a group member a linked in group asked "What to do when group energy level drops or turns negative at the end of a session".

This is quite a tricky thing to answer as the intervention would have to be very context specific

Several of the things I have done in the past, that have worked,  have been based around Covey's circle of control & influence:

1) Present the idea then get people to map out current thoughts on the circles then partner up. This takes no more than 15 minutes.

2) Present the idea then get small groups to work on things they can implement this week, next week. Again short, no more than 15 / 20 minutes. I particularly like the team doing a flip chart sized mind map on this.

3) Create a coaching conversation around the issue being facilitates so people pair up and face each other, finding space between them. I then ask a question and get the pairs to share there thoughts on the answer. I would typically ask for one person to talk and finish their idea then swap. I would go through 4 or 5 questions. Then final question would be around how will you celebrate your achievements on this course / session etc.

There are many more ways to deal with this issue and I am sure more group members will post ideas to the thread here.
