Executing Change : 2 days
This course examines the process, emotions, acceptance, and internalization of change. "Game Plan for Change" : A Tabletop Simulation for Igniting Growth Through Transformation provides a means to learn and apply key principles of change in a real-time context. The Simulation is conducted in small teams using a game board and working collaboratively to develop a change strategy and roadmap to successfully implement change based on a selected business case scenario. Game Plan for Change will help organizations systematically and efficiently address, implement, and institutionalize change. The materials provide the structure, tools, and processes necessary to learn about how to plan and implement a successful change initiative.
The process is experienced through the use of a game board and its seventeen dynamic, interdependent components, which have corresponding activities and exercises to be completed by the participants. Completing the exercises generate scores in the form of indicators of success or indicators of failure when executing the selected case-based change initiative.
The setting is a facilitator-led, classroom workshop where the participants are divided into teams. Each team selects a case-based organization or company to guide through the simulation process. participant teams are presented with information, discuss solutions, evaluate alternatives, solve problems, make decisions, and learn how well their team is able to guide its business case in executing its change initiative.
The result is a comprehensive value-based change map for executing a successful change initiative. The outcomes of the activities and exercises highlight the strengths, weaknesses and potential roadblocks the case-based organization will face whether their change is small and incremental or massive and transformational.
Participants will:
- Understand the why and how of change management.
- Learn some of the key tools of change management.
- Develop the do's and don'ts of change management.
- Practise their learning by using the table top simulation.
- Create personal change management action plans.
Project Management : 3 days
This programme allows participants to gain maximum project management experience from minimal expense in both cost and time. It achieves this by using a sophisticated project management simulator which produces relevant learning, in a context which responds to management behaviour and decision making recognised and accepted by the most experienced of project managers.
In general project management training concentrates heavily on the use and application of tools and techniques, almost to the exclusion of all else. Yet research by Pugh Roberts in the States shows that despite the increase in support from rampant information technology, more than half of all major projects fail. The problem for project management of today does not lie only in ever increasing sophisticated tools and techniques but also in good understanding of people and the application of well understood motivational and leadership skills.
This programme is not only differentiated through the use of high reality simulation, it also asks students to demonstrate that they have understood and can integrate the behavioural skills needed for the project manager to consistently deliver success. The programme moves academic learning from the lecture and text book into a living context of the project managers world. Students are required to make difficult decisions under pressure within the realistically presented constraints of business life.
Participants will:
- Learn the key tools for planning a project.
- Understand the key techniques for tracking a project.
- Gain understanding of the key issues around project team management.
- Practise the learning through using a PC project simulator.
- Develop a personal project management action plan.
NOTE – This course can be run without the PC sim using "Live Case" methodology in which participants develop their true project management plan over the 3 days. In 1997 this programme was given a Suppliers Excellence Award by NASA where it is one of their core programmes. The citation reads that it is 'For outstanding accomplishment in enhancing the state of project management excellence both within NASA and the USA"
Strategic Business Management : 4 Days
The objective of this program is to enable participants to practice Business Analysis, Setting Strategy, and Implementing Strategy and experience the importance of alignment, consistency and team work at the top of an organisation.
The program revolves around a business case of reviving a mature business with mature products. Participants develop a five year business plan based on a Product Strategy, a Sales Strategy, and a Manufacturing strategy.
To implement all the parts of the strategy a number of enterprise wide initiatives have to be implemented, which involve change and distract people from the day-to-day running of the business. Trade-offs have to be made between short and long term solutions. Financial constraints limit the amount of investment. Competitor activity forces unplanned use of resources.
The theory part of the course is combined with a state of the art computer simulator in with which typically participants work in teams of five. The team as a whole act as the executive committee making policy and strategic decisions. Each individual participant also takes responsibility for Sales/Marketing, or Manufacturing, or Projects, or Finance or Human Resources. By using the simulator the team can learn and implement their ideas inmediately.
Participants will:
- Learn key strategy development tools and models.
- Develop and practise a balanced scorecard approach to strategy management.
- Create a strategy and manage it over 5 years on a PC simulator.
- Carry out sessions on using the tools back in the real business.
- Receive one on one coaching on business strategy issues.
- Develop a personal strategy action plan.
NOTE – This course can also be carried out without the PC sim using "Live Case" methodology in which participants develop their true business strategy over the 4 days.
Emotionally Intelligent Leader : 2 days
Effective leaders work in many styles. A common characteristic of all of them is a high degree of emotional intelligence, which is the ability to use their emotions, feelings, moods - and those of others - as a source of information to help them navigate through business more effectively. There is now a large deal of research showing that emotional intelligence is more important than technical skills, or traditional cognitive skills, in shaping our leadership effectiveness. There are also studies showing that an organization's success is directly related to the emotional intelligence level of its leaders. As the business environment continues to get more complex, emotional intelligence skills will become increasingly important in determining which leaders succeed. This two day course will help leaders develop their emotional intelligence. The course participants will assess, develop, and apply their own emotional intelligence and will learn how to cultivate emotional intelligence in their teams.
Participants will:
- Understand the core competencies of emotional intelligence (EI).
- Practise developing the core competencies of EI.
- Receive one on one feedback coaching on an EI instrument.
- Share techniques and ideas for effective emotionally intelligent leadership.
- Role play key leadership situations to embed the learning.
- Develop an emotional intelligence competence action plan.
